Midival Punditz
Since their Six Degrees Records debut in 2002, the MIDIval PunditZ the first Indian electronica band to hit the international scene-has ushered in a new era of possibilities for the sound of 21st-century India. Their unique and expansive artistic vision marries the soulful elegance of South Asia's extraordinarily rich traditional and classical music heritage with the exuberance and limitless potential of modern Western electronic music. Listeners around the world have embraced their culture-crossing expressions with huge enthusiasm, and their audience grew rapidly when one of their tracks from their first, eponymous album,
The sound can be labeled as Indian Electronica but more specifically it's the perfect blend of South Asian traditional sounds with the electronic edge of the Western world. Not only does the duo perform live around the UK, Southern Asia and the USA, but they also have composed music for Bollywood as well as contributing songs to Hollywood itself. Combining the unique sounds of the sitar, sarangi and haunting vocals, one certainly doesn’t need to understand the language being sung to understand the depth and emotion within the music itself. The duo collaborates with impressive artists including; celebrated Pakistani female singer Abida Parveen, Anoushka Shankar, the daughter of the legendary artist Ravi Shankar, NYC based producer Karsh Kale, Indian tabla giant Zakir Hussain and Kailash Kher, whom Gaurav describes as “a new Bollywood playback singer.”
